Tuesday is Election Day in many parts of the U.S., and the week is a monumental anniversary as well: Barack Obama was voted the nation’s first African-American president on Nov. 4, 2008.

That same date marked the release of Brad Paisley’s Play album, and he couldn’t have created better timing if he’d planned it. He was in New York to promote the CD the day the nation went to the polls, and he witnessed hysterical celebration in Times Square. That helped inspire his song “Welcome To The Future,” which hit No. 1 this anniversary week in Country Aircheck.

Kenny Chesney said goodbye to fans last Saturday on the last night of his Sun City Carnival Tour as he takes some time off to rejuvenate and record another CD, due late spring, 2010.

“It’s hard to believe we’re putting this thing up on blocks,” Kenny said after the sold-out show at Lucas Oil Stadium. “The response from the fans, out in the crowd and the Internet, it makes [me] feel like people understand, and that they know we’re not gone for good, it’s just a breather. Barbara Mandrell spent years tending to her career, and that investment reached its full bloom in May when she took her place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Now Barbara’s sprouting new roots in other ground-breaking ways: She’ll take part in the dedication of a Garden to the Stars in Nashville, and she’s been named the first female member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.

Barbara and Lynn Anderson will be celebrity hosts on Sept. 29 when the Nashville Music Garden is officially dedicated in Music City across from the Hall of Fame and Museum. It’s the first garden to pay homage to entertainers with flowers that bear their names. The ceremony is expected to draw Continue Reading

Eleven years after her death, Tammy Wynette — whose “Stand By Your Man” ranks among the best-known country songs in history — will finally enter the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame during a ceremony Oct. 18 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel.

Tammy will be inducted alongside two full-time songwriters who wrote their own iconic pieces: Kye Fleming was responsible for Barbara Mandrell’s theme song, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool”; and Mark D. Sanders authored Lee Ann Womack’s mega-hit “I Hope You Dance.” Continue Reading

Who says you can’t go home? Justin Moore, Brady Seals and Brad Paisley are among the many country stars who are proud of their roots, and their interactions with their hometowns are creating headlines.

Each of them comes from a different state — Justin hails from Arkansas, Brady’s from Ohio and Brad grew up in West Virginia — but all of them have the same sense of connection to their birthplace that Alabama celebrated in its personal-roots classic “My Home’s In Alabama.” Continue Reading
