The American Music Awards! The Musicians Hall of Fame! The CMA Broadcast Awards! The Inspirational Country Music Awards!

Another wave of awards news rolled in this week. As always (unless Kanye West is involved), that means something good for Taylor Swift. This time around is no exception: Taylor snagged a total of six nominations Tuesday in the American Music Awards, putting her ahead of Michael Jackson, Eminem and a gaggle of pop and rock stars in the all-genre competition.

Taylor entertained her way into the Pop or Rock Music field and the Adult Contemporary category in addition to garnering expected country tabs. The Zac Brown Band snared a pair of country nods plus a nomination for T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist. Rascal Flatts was also a double nominee for the show, which airs on ABC Nov. 22.

Craig Morgan, Chris Young, and GAC host Nan Kelley are joining forces with Stars For Stripes (SFS), Great American Country (GAC)  and Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) to bring hardworking service members overseas a much-needed taste of home.

The Stars For Stripes tour will visit military bases and hospitals in Iraq and Germany this month for a series of acoustic concerts, courtesy of RCA recording artist Chris Young and BNA recording artist Craig Morgan.  Chris is currently celebrating his first No. 1 on the Billboard chart with “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song) while Craig’s “Bonfire” is close behind at No. 12.  GAC host Nan Kelley will serve as guest emcee at each tour stop.

“This will be my sixth trip to entertain and visit with the men and women of the Armed Forces,” says Craig, who was the first artist to perform on a Stars For Stripes/AFE event in 2003.  Continue Reading

Dailey & Vincent didn’t take home quite as many trophies as they did in their first year of eligibility, but the duo still played a strong hand at Thursday’s International Bluegrass Music Awards, taking home three honors. Their collection included a repeat as the genre’s Entertainer of the Year. The act also claimed Vocal Group of the Year and went home with Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year for “On The Other Side.” Dailey & Vincent earned seven awards at the 2008 ceremony.

“We’ll do our best to take [bluegrass] to the masses,” Darrin Vincent told the audience this week at the Ryman Auditorium, according to the Associated Press. Continue Reading

Mooo! Sounds Like Life to Darryl Worley

Darryl Worley might be a big ol’ country star, but he’s still got the same small-town sensibility he was raised with, which is part of the reason he raises about 75 head of cattle on his farm near Savannah, Tenn.

“It’s just one of those little things that were kind of the way we grew up,” Darryl told The Decatur Herald & Review of Central Illinois. “I think sometimes those things help you keep your feet on the ground.”

One other thing that will keep you grounded is a little lull in success. “Sounds Like Life To Me” is in the Top 15 on the Country Aircheck singles chart, the first song Darryl’s had reach that plateau in a good three years. He went through a major adjustment when his label folded in 2005. In the aftermath, he signed with an independent company that Neal McCoy started up, and that company ran out of money. There were plenty of reasons why it made sense that Craig Morgan and Bush’s Baked Beans could form an ideal partnership of artist and product, each enhancing and benefiting from what the other had to offer. But for Morgan himself, none of it mattered if not for one essential truth.

“I love to grill,” he said. “I could probably try to sell something I’m not that into, but when I’m looking at potential sponsors or endorsements I try to affiliate myself with products I would use. I ride Kawasaki motorcycles. When I’m on a tractor, it’s my Case IH. I’m loyal to these products.” Continue Reading
