Country Throwdown 2010, a multi-act outdoor tour produced by the same company that created rock’s annual Vans Warped Tour, has enlisted Montgomery Gentry, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town and Jack Ingram among the initial acts for a five-week, GAC-sponsored series of concerts next spring. Specific markets and the entire lineup have yet to be revealed, though the Throwdown will feature 21 total acts on an itinerary from May 13-June 20.

“When Eddie [Montgomery] and I were approached about doing the Country Throwdown Tour we immediately said yes,” Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry said. “We loved the idea of it being like a big festival, a big party. I mean, that’s what Montgomery Gentry is all about. We’re keeping the ticket prices low because we know it’s hard out there. Fans are going to get a lot of entertainment for their money. This tour is going to be a great experience for us, the other artists and especially the fans.”

Jack Ingram is currently lodged among Billboard’s Top 10 country singles with “Barefoot And Crazy,” and he’ll pop in to chat with host Nan Kelley about it on this week’s edition of GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown.

The song appears on his new album, Big Dreams & High Hopes, which provided a backdrop for a huge push to set a new world record. Beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 25, the day it was released, Jack did 215 interviews in a 24-hour period, a mark authenticated by The Guinness Book Of World Records. By the end, it’s a good bet that almost all the questions were the same: “How many more interviews do you have to do?” and “How are you holdin’ up?” Continue Reading

Eleven years after her death, Tammy Wynette — whose “Stand By Your Man” ranks among the best-known country songs in history — will finally enter the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame during a ceremony Oct. 18 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel.

Tammy will be inducted alongside two full-time songwriters who wrote their own iconic pieces: Kye Fleming was responsible for Barbara Mandrell’s theme song, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool”; and Mark D. Sanders authored Lee Ann Womack’s mega-hit “I Hope You Dance.” Continue Reading

It wouldn’t be surprising if Jack Ingram were on vocal rest today — not for singing too much, but simply for talking. The country rocker spent Tuesday, Aug. 25 talking non-stop about himself and his new album, Big Dreams & High Hopes, in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “Most Consecutive Radio Interviews in a 24-Hour Period.”

Did he do it?

George Strait: ACM Artist Of The Decade All Star Concert airs on CBS Wednesday, and while the honor itself was no secret to George the night he received it, one of the performances came as a complete surprise.

The special was shot in Las Vegas April 6, one day after the Academy of Country Music handed out its annual awards. Lee Ann Womack joined Jamey Johnson for a duet version of “Give It Away,” then sang a solo. The song she handled on her own was written specifically for the special and then kept hidden until the big night. Continue Reading

New Alan Jackson Video is Personal

Alan Jackson’s new video, “Sissy’s Song,” started airing on GAC on Monday, and it’s one that was inspired by a tragedy in his own life.

Leslie “Sissy” Fitzgerald worked for Alan and his family, and they saw her on a daily basis until May 20, 2007, when she died in a motorcycle accident. Her husband, who restores cars for a living, works with Alan, and Sissy also left behind a college-age daughter and a son in high school.

The shock of such a sudden tragedy hit everyone who knew her, including Alan.

“I didn’t sleep for a while,” he says. “So I sat down one day and wrote this song, and after that I felt all right.”

Alan gave a recording of “Sissy’s Song” to the Fitzgeralds to use at the funeral, and Alan quickly discovered that it had the same impact on others that it had on him.

“A lot of people told me how much it made them feel better and helped them get through it a little easier,” he says, “so I was very proud of it.”

The black-and-white video, directed by Scott Scovill, features Alan in performance shots against the back-lit pews of the historic Bear Creek Church, a tiny Civil War-era building listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

In addition to seeing him in the “Sissy’s Song” video, you’ll soon be able to spot Alan in a CBS special. On April 6, the day after the “44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards”, he’ll be part of the performing cast taping “George Strait: ACM Artist Of The Decade, An All Star Concert Special.” Brooks & Dunn, Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, LeAnn Rimes, Lee Ann Womack, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, John Rich, Jack Ingram and Jamie Foxx are the latest guests announced for the show, which airs May 27.

With Barack Obama’s inauguration less than a week away, Faith Hill, Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus are among the country stars who’ve been added to official Washington, D.C., lineups that celebrate the incoming president.

And while Lee Greenwood, a longtime friend of the Bush family, hasn’t been named to appear at any of the events, there’s strong evidence that his 25-year-old flag-waver “God Bless The U.S.A.” will get an urban renewal during at least one of the ceremonies. Continue Reading
