The current Montgomery Gentry single “Long Line Of Losers” celebrates a colorful family tree that’s “half outlaw, half boozers.” And if it sounds like they mean it, that might be because Eddie Montgomery in particular can relate to the song firsthand.

“I really was raised with a shot glass in my hand,” Eddie says. “I ain’t gonna lie about it. You know, everybody’s like, ‘Well, I don’t know if I’d talk about it,’ or what. Hell, it does not bother me at all. You know, it never has. [Although] now I do know as an adult why none of the other parents would ever let kids come over to our house.”

Colt Ford has written with Country hit maker Jamey Johnson, Jeremy Popoff from alt-rockers Lit and Southern rap-master Attitude. He has worked with Montgomery Gentry, No Doubt’s Adrian Young and hip-hoppers Bonecrusher and Sunny Ledfurd. That may sound like this Georgia native and onetime PGA golfer is picking through wildly different types of music in hopes of finding his own direction. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Sunday night’s CBS telecast of the “44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards” was an ratings winner for the network as an average of 14 million fans hung in throughout the broadcast for the final Entertainer of the Year showdown, in which Carrie Underwood was a surprise victor.

But the biggest drama took place behind the scenes. Toby Keith lambasted a reporter, Tim McGraw walked out during rehearsals, and the folks in the business continue to debate the Academy’s increasing use of fan votes to determine the winners. Continue Reading
