When the GACTV.com staff heard that the popular men’s magazine Maxim decided to put out a list of the “Hottest Women of Country Music,”  I reluctantly stepped forward to do some research.  It’s a tough job but somebody has to do it.  So off I went to Maxim.com to review the list, presented in the form of a photo gallery.   The list was comprised of a total of 19 women. The gallery appears to be in random order and not in any formal order or rank of  “hotness.”  No surprises for me, but I can tell you I think they left more than a couple of deserving ladies off the list… Continue Reading

Wanda Jackson, the rockabilly queen who’s been enjoying a resurgence in attention, is about to follow in the footsteps of Country Music Hall of Famer Loretta Lynn. Wanda’s enlisted Jack White, the Nashville-based White Stripes rocker, to produce her next album.

He is “one of the biggest stars on the planet I guess right now,” Wanda told The Oklahoman.

Jack has found success not only with the Stripes, but also as a member of the Dead Weather and with the Raconteurs, who were Musical Event of the Year nominees at last week’s CMA awards for a collaboration with Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe.

Country Throwdown 2010, a multi-act outdoor tour produced by the same company that created rock’s annual Vans Warped Tour, has enlisted Montgomery Gentry, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town and Jack Ingram among the initial acts for a five-week, GAC-sponsored series of concerts next spring. Specific markets and the entire lineup have yet to be revealed, though the Throwdown will feature 21 total acts on an itinerary from May 13-June 20.

“When Eddie [Montgomery] and I were approached about doing the Country Throwdown Tour we immediately said yes,” Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry said. “We loved the idea of it being like a big festival, a big party. I mean, that’s what Montgomery Gentry is all about. We’re keeping the ticket prices low because we know it’s hard out there. Fans are going to get a lot of entertainment for their money. This tour is going to be a great experience for us, the other artists and especially the fans.”

The Associated Press reports that Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook and Karen Fairchild are expecting their first child. They made the announcement just before performing at the “All for the Hall” Country Music Hall of Fame fundraiser concert Tuesday night.

The AP says when LBT was asked if the group had anything new to talk about, Kimberly Schlapman pointed at Karen’s  belly and said, “I have something really new.” Continue Reading

If you got the bucks, you can load up the truck with lots of country music memorabilia. Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood and Montgomery Gentry are among a slew of artists who’ve contributed autographed merchandise to Women Rock For The Cure, a Nashville-based agency that raises money for breast cancer research and awareness.

Jason, Carrie and Montgomery Gentry each put their names on instruments with starting bids that range from $200-$500 at http://myworld.ebay.com/womenrockforthecure. Another guitar bearing signatures from the Oct. 2 Opry Goes Pink night has a $500 minimum. King In A Box: Elvis Presley At 75

Had he somehow survived health issues and personal excesses, Elvis Presley would turn 75 in January, and the Country Music Hall of Fame member will be celebrated with the Dec. 8 release of a four-disc, 100-song box set, Elvis 75: Good Rockin’ Tonight.

Featuring an 80-page booklet of photographs and liner notes that place his life and career in cultural context, the collection demonstrates Elvis’ elasticity as an artist. The opening “My Happiness” is a traditional pop song he recorded for his mother before he signed with Sun Records. The track listing includes such rockin’ tracks as “Hound Dog” and “Little Sister,” gospel numbers “Crying In The Chapel” and “How Great Thou Art” and the updated pop re-mix of “A Little Less Conversation.”

Keith Urban on stage at his "All For The Hall" benefit concert at the Sommet Center in Nashville, TN on October 13, 2009

Isn’t the internet great!  Tonight I was faced with a dilemma.  Three school age children with soccer practice and mountains of homework OR Keith Urban doing a one-of-a-kind concert in downtown Nashville with special guests Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Faith Hill, and Taylor Swift.  A concert Keith set up to benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Keith Urban: Life Is a Cabaret

It’s doubtful that too many music fans would confuse Keith Urban with Liza Minnelli, but his background certainly intersects with the setting of one of her biggest roles.

During his teen years, Keith worked as the music director for a cabaret in Australia. Broadway songs are quite different than country music, and yet, the job eventually paid off after he became a star.

“The whole thing was pretty odd,” he told Newsday. “I mean, I was 16, with hair down past my shoulders, and I had to perform in a tuxedo. Continue Reading
