Jake Owen’s “Eight Second Ride” uses a rodeo phrase for a sexy come-on that has his latest video at No. 18 on GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown, but some real rodeo pros join Suzanne Alexander from this week’s CBR (Championship Bull Riding) finale in Kansas City.
Suzanne checks in with a bunch of bull-riding cowboys — including Jarrod Craig, Ardie Maier, retired champ Gary Leffew and the Kansas City winner, Hugo Pedrero — as she works through the biggest videos in country music.

You could call it back-seat karaoke. Randy Houser’s video for “Boots On,” built around the sing-along of young Drake Dixon while Randy filled his gas tank, became one of the most-talked-about videos of 2009, even earning a thumbs up from fellow singer Keith Urban.
It’s also gotten the attention of the country industry at large, as “Boots On” is one of the finalists for the Country Music Association’s Music Video of the Year honor during next week’s 43rd annual awards. Not that Randy’s putting much stock in winning.

The American Music Awards! The Musicians Hall of Fame! The CMA Broadcast Awards! The Inspirational Country Music Awards!
Another wave of awards news rolled in this week. As always (unless Kanye West is involved), that means something good for Taylor Swift. This time around is no exception: Taylor snagged a total of six nominations Tuesday in the American Music Awards, putting her ahead of Michael Jackson, Eminem and a gaggle of pop and rock stars in the all-genre competition.
Taylor entertained her way into the Pop or Rock Music field and the Adult Contemporary category in addition to garnering expected country tabs. The Zac Brown Band snared a pair of country nods plus a nomination for T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist. Rascal Flatts was also a double nominee for the show, which airs on ABC Nov. 22.

Randy Houser made a special stop last week at Victory Junction in Randleman, NC to lend his time and voice to the NASCAR-themed camp that caters to chronically ill children ages six to 16. Country music and NASCAR fans alike will have an opportunity to see just how much fun campers, and Houser, have on the 80 acre grounds when the 2009 Victory Junction PSAs begin airing on ESPN during select televised races this fall.
“We were thrilled that Randy Houser took the time out of his busy schedule to stop by Camp today with his band,” says Camp Founder Kyle Petty. Being big country music fans all of our lives, we all love his “old-school” style of music. Continue Reading

Brad Paisley is a happy man with Wednesday’s unveiling of the finalists for “The 43rd Annual CMA Awards”. Announced on Sept. 9 — 9/9/09 — Brad showed up 7 times on the list. His haul included his fifth straight nomination for Entertainer of the Year and his ninth in 10 years for Male Vocalist.
Set to co-host the awards on ABC with Carrie Underwood on Nov. 11, Brad also secured a spot in the finalists for Single and Song with his ballad, “Then”; earned an Album nomination with American Saturday Night; and shared a Vocal Event slot with Keith Urban for “Start A Band.”
Brad might be at the head of the class, but he was hardly the only one to receive good grades. Continue Reading

If you can make your past come alive through music, then you’ve got a gift that will serve you well. In this department, Justin Moore is amply blessed.
Case in point: Though written by Randy Houser and Jeremy Stover, Moore’s first single, “Back That Thing Up,” conjures how life must have felt back on the Arkansas farm where he was raised. Kids grew up there hunting, fishing, milking the cows and working the land — the kind of routine that feeds the good-natured, double-entendre swagger in this tale of a country boy as he introduces a city lass to the wonders of rural recreation.
