Tracy Byrd, Lee Ann Womack Make Noble Move

At least three years after shooting began, the independent movie that gave Lee Ann Womack and Tracy Byrd their first significant acting roles debuts this weekend in a limited number of public theaters.

It premieres Friday , KBMT-TV reported, in Beaumont, Texas, where much of the film was shot. It was featured earlier this year in the Nashville Film Festival and has also screened at the Austin Film Festival.

Tracy Lawrence Has His Alibis

That swine flu virus that’s tapping out vaccine supplies and landing people in the hospital across the U.S. has hit Nashville. Music City ran through its first shipment of the vaccine in a scant two days, and even before that, Tracy Lawrence became one of country music’s first victims.

“For five or six weeks, I was pretty sick,” he told The Norman Transcript in Oklahoma. “I had H1N1 and pneumonia. It hit me a little harder because I’m asthmatic. It knocked me down pretty hard.”

Taylor Swift Leads Awards Bonanza

The American Music Awards! The Musicians Hall of Fame! The CMA Broadcast Awards! The Inspirational Country Music Awards!

Another wave of awards news rolled in this week. As always (unless Kanye West is involved), that means something good for Taylor Swift. This time around is no exception: Taylor snagged a total of six nominations Tuesday in the American Music Awards, putting her ahead of Michael Jackson, Eminem and a gaggle of pop and rock stars in the all-genre competition.

Taylor entertained her way into the Pop or Rock Music field and the Adult Contemporary category in addition to garnering expected country tabs. The Zac Brown Band snared a pair of country nods plus a nomination for T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist. Rascal Flatts was also a double nominee for the show, which airs on ABC Nov. 22.

Lorrie Morgan’s calendar is quite full these days. She has a new album of country standards coming out Oct. 27 called A Moment In Time, featuring special guests Tracy Lawrence (”After the Fire Is Gone”) and Raul Malo (”Easy Lovin’”).

In January, she’ll head to Broadway to begin rehearsals for her starring role in the stage adaptation of “Pure Country,” also starring Joe Nichols.  But next week, she’ll be here at the GAC studio — and we want YOU to interview Lorrie. Continue Reading

Kenny Chesney Comes “Alive”

Kenny Chesney’s made a lot of friends in the music industry, and several of them have joined him on a variety of recordings.

He shared the mic with George Strait on “Shiftwork,” duetted with Reba McEntire on “Every Other Weekend,” collaborated with Mac McAnally on “Down The Road,” worked with Willie Nelson on “Lucky Old Sun” and even did a track with NFL quarterback Peyton Manning on an NFL Country album.

Kenny’s now found a way to make Dave Matthews a hit on the country charts. Continue Reading
