Brooks & Dunn may be bringing down the curtain on their life as a duo, but they’re certainly doing it in style. Their two-CD compilation, #1s … and then some, sold more than 55,000 copies last week to debut at No.1 on the Billboard country albums chart. The disc also ranks No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

It’s not quite the end of the road for Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. They’re working up plans for a farewell tour in 2010. They’re looking forward to re-launching their solo careers, but they’re also extremely appreciative of coming to prominence together, instead of alone.

“There are pros and cons to being in a group [or] duo,” Ronnie says. “I think it’s been an asset in many ways, especially in the early years. Being able to play off one another and just from, you know, exhaustion on tour and walkin’ onstage and pulling one another through it and being cheerleaders for one another all along throughout the process, in songwriting and everything else. I think it helped. I think even [for] a solo artist it wouldn’t hurt to have a coach out there with you, or a buddy sometimes. I think a lot of people could use that.”

Brooks & Dunn are GAC’s Artist of the Month for September.
