The Country Music Association has announced the first round of performers for the “43rd Annual CMA Awards.” Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.

“The 43rd Annual CMA Awards,” hosted by Brad and Carrie, airs live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Brooks & Dunn are nominated this year for Vocal Duo (which they have won a record 14 times) and Musical Event with Reba for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry.”

Kenny, the reigning Entertainer of the Year (with four total wins in this category), has three nominations, including Entertainer; Male Vocalist; and Musical Event with Mac McAnally for “Down the Road.”

Reba has two nominations, including Female Vocalist (which she won four consecutive years during 1984-1987) and Musical Event with Brooks & Dunn for “Cowgirls Don’t Cry.”

Brad, the reigning Male Vocalist (2007 and 2008), is this year’s top-nominated artist with seven nominations, including Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Album for American Saturday Night; Single and Song for “Then” (which he co-wrote with Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley); and Musical Event and Music Video for “Start a Band” with Keith.

Darius, who released his debut solo country album in 2008, received his first two CMA nominations this year for New Artist and Male Vocalist.

George, a Country Music Hall of Fame member, received four nominations including Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Music Video for “Troubadour” and Musical Event for “Everything But Quits” with Lee Ann Womack (a category they won in 2005 with “Good News, Bad News”). With 79 career nominations, George is now tied with Alan Jackson as the most nominated artist in CMA Awards history.

Sugarland, the reigning Vocal Duo (2007 and 2008), has two nominations including Vocal Duo and Album for Love on the Inside. Sugarland members Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles could each receive a second trophy for producing Love on the Inside with Byron Gallimore.

Taylor, who won the Horizon Award in 2007, received four nominations this year with Entertainer; Female; Album for Fearless; and Music Video for “Love Story.” She could receive a second trophy for producing Fearless with Nathan Chapman. At age 19, Taylor is the youngest artist ever to be nominated for Entertainer. Prior to this nomination, Wynonna was the youngest at age 22 when The Judds were first nominated in that category in 1986. Taylor is also the first solo female artist to be nominated for Entertainer since 2000 when Faith Hill was nominated. The last solo female artist to win the category was Shania Twain in 1999.

Carrie, the reigning Female Vocalist for three consecutive years (2006-2008), has two nominations including Female Vocalist and Musical Event for “I Told You So” with Randy Travis. Should Carrie win the Female Vocalist category again this year, she would tie Martina McBride and Reba as the top winners in the category with four wins each.

Keith received five nominations this year, with Entertainer (which he won in 2005); Male Vocalist (which he won three consecutive years in 2004-2006); Album for Defying Gravity;  and Musical Event and Music Video for “Start a Band” with Brad. Keith could receive a second trophy for producing Defying Gravity with Dann Huff.

  1. The following is a copy of what you have in your article… " Taylor is also the first solo female artist to be nominated for Entertainer since 2000 when Faith Hill was nominated. The last solo female artist to win the category was Shania Twain in 1999."……. I think maybe you should check your information. Carrie was nominated last year and also won last year as Entertainer of the year.

  2. who is the person performing at the CMA awards that has not performed in 4 years

jacob on November 7, 2009 at 11:54 pm
  3. The fact is, Taylor Swift is a great songwriter but does not have a voice deserving of this award. Pure voices sucha as Martina McBride, Mirianda Lambert or Carrie Underwood all have the vocal talent deserving of this award and Kenny Chesney is definitely the Entertainer of the Year !

  6. why, because I said that kanye West was a clown, and he should try to buy himself some class? What's wrong with that? it's the truth

  8. of all the music awards, those who honor country music are the classiest. They know how to entertain with taste and class. The other music shows don't compare. They should take a page from this awards show, and see how to do it right. People long to be entertained, not shocked, or bombarded by digusting bad language, and low class behavior. Country folk are the real deal, and it will be a pleasure to be truly entertained. Thank goodness Kanye West won't be there. TAke some of your money and try to buy yourself some class, you clown

  26. If Brad or Keith wins entertainer it would be ok. But since Kenny is slowing down I really hope he wins this year. NO one works harder or has as many fans show up as he does. I hope Carrie wins Top female artist. She is the best in any genre today. I hope Randy Travis wins for I Told You So. Should be a good show.

  30. Can't wait to see Carrie and Brad hosting again this year–no one better to represent country music than these 2. Carrie should win Top Female vocalist and I really hope Randy wins for I Told You So. They both are really NICE artists. GAC–why are you not showing Carrie's new video "Cowboy Casanova" on here??? I know there are a lot of others who would like to see it also. Some of them may not have a computer to get on line to see it like I do–and it isn't fair to them. PLEASE show it!!!!!

Sami on October 5, 2009 at 11:02 pm
