George Strait has a uniquely successful career. With more than 50 No. 1 singles, he’s topped the charts more than any other artist in history. He was named this year by the Academy of Country Music as the Artist of the Decade. And he’s still consistently earning hits three years after being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
How has he been able to make it happen? Even he is not really certain.
“If I knew the answer to that, I could have a whole new career selling it,” he told Cowboys & Indians magazine. “I’ve just tried to do what I do the best I can do it — from picking songs to making records to playing shows.”
As is his habit, George garnered a gold album with his latest release, Twang, barely a month after its release. Clearly, he remains at the top of his game, and George is as surprised as anyone that he’s been able to stay there for 28 years.
“It’s a little too late to be talking about long-term goals for me,” he said. “Every year I get to do it now is another year I didn’t think I would have.”
