The American Music Awards! The Musicians Hall of Fame! The CMA Broadcast Awards! The Inspirational Country Music Awards!
Another wave of awards news rolled in this week. As always (unless Kanye West is involved), that means something good for Taylor Swift. This time around is no exception: Taylor snagged a total of six nominations Tuesday in the American Music Awards, putting her ahead of Michael Jackson, Eminem and a gaggle of pop and rock stars in the all-genre competition.
Taylor entertained her way into the Pop or Rock Music field and the Adult Contemporary category in addition to garnering expected country tabs. The Zac Brown Band snared a pair of country nods plus a nomination for T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist. Rascal Flatts was also a double nominee for the show, which airs on ABC Nov. 22.
“The AMAs are one of the coolest award shows of the year — you never know what you’re going to see,” said Jason Aldean, who earned his first AMA nomination. “One of my first memories of the show was the year Michael Jackson came out carrying Emmanuel Lewis — crazy! It’s great that I’ll get to be a part of it this year. I’ll be easy to spot since I’m sure I’ll be the only guy in the room representin’ with a cowboy hat!”
Taylor might be safe from another Kanye misstep. He’s nowhere to be seen on the nominees list.
Other awards news of note:
- Kix Brooks became the first recording artist in history to win one of the Country Music Association’s Broadcast Awards. Kix, honored for his work as the host of American Country Countdown, was a bit shocked when Jamey Johnson walked into the studio drop the news on the staff. “I wasn’t sure what was going on — thought maybe I’d forgotten about an interview or something,” Kix said. “Next thing I know, he’s telling me that we won the CMA National Air Personality of the Year Award. The whole ACC team was in here screaming and jumping around!”
- Ricky Skaggs has four nominations for the Inspirational Country Music Awards, slated for Thursday, according to The Tennessean. Josh Turner’s “Everything Is Fine,” Alan Jackson’s “Sissy’s Song,” Craig Morgan’s “God Must Really Love Me” and Tracy Lawrence’s “Up To Him” all appear twice on the finalists list, which also includes Billy Ray Cyrus, Tammy Cochran, Charlie Daniels, Marty Raybon, Brad Paisley and the Oak Ridge Boys, among others.
- Charlie Daniels and Chet Atkins were among the acts inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame during a ceremony Monday in Nashville. Rascal Flatts was scheduled to appear, WKRN-TV reported, alongside Toto in a performance of “Africa.”
- Country Music Hall of Famer Brenda Lee presented Chubby Checker with a Career Achievement Award Monday during the International Entertainment Buyers Association Honors Ceremony at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Other country stars who helped recognize top talents in the concert booking industry included Jamey Johnson, Lorrie Morgan, Randy Houser and Chris Young.
