That swine flu virus that’s tapping out vaccine supplies and landing people in the hospital across the U.S. has hit Nashville. Music City ran through its first shipment of the vaccine in a scant two days, and even before that, Tracy Lawrence became one of country music’s first victims.
“For five or six weeks, I was pretty sick,” he told The Norman Transcript in Oklahoma. “I had H1N1 and pneumonia. It hit me a little harder because I’m asthmatic. It knocked me down pretty hard.”
Tracy checked into Nashville’s Summit Medical Center for a couple days in August, forcing him to postpone a handful of concerts. By the end of the month, he was well enough that he attended magician Criss Angel’s show in Las Vegas. He makes up dates in San Antonio and Norman this weekend, fitting a few songs from his gospel-themed current album, The Rock, into his concert set list.
“Sonically, as far as I’m concerned, it’s not far removed [musically] from things I’ve recorded in the past,” he said of the album.
Tracy is featured on Lorrie Morgan’s new A Moment In Time album in a remake of the classic Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn duet “After The Fire Is Gone.” The album was released this week. Tracy’s already making plans for Thanksgiving week. He’ll hold his fourth annual Mission Possible turkey fry for the homeless at the Nashville Mission Nov. 24.
