This is Taylor Swift’s world and we’re all just living in it. Tonight at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards, Taylor took home awards for Video of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year AND Entertainer of the Year.

Backstage in the press room, Taylor told the media how she was going to celebrate.

“Tonight I’m just gonna dance around and freak out,” she said, “because I never imagined that the unattainable thing I always held in my imagination would happen to me at 19. I couldn’t be more grateful but I love a challenge, and right now the challenge is to find that next challenge.”

Also backstage, show co-host — and Male Vocalist of the Year winner – Brad Paisley commented on Taylor’s win.

“Next year we’re not gonna take any opening acts out,” joked Brad, referring to the fact that Taylor opened for him this year on tour. ”Kidding…couldn’t be prouder of her.  She has taken the music world by storm. She’s the biggest artist in music by far right now. It’s a hands down she’s the entertainer in country music now.  [She] has an amazing amount of natural talent and momentum.  Her team is also doing everything right.  I’m not at all surprised at how fast she’s gone.”

  1. WITHOUT QUESTION OR DOUBT — SOMEONE — IS PAYING FOR THIS TWIT TO WIN EVERYTHING. SHE CANNOT SING AND WHILE MAKING MY CATS CRINGE WITH HER ATTEMPT TO SING — IF YOU PAY ATTENTION – SHE STANDS LIKE SOMETHING BETWEEN HER LEGS DOESN’T SMELL GOOD. WHO???? IS PAYING OFF EVERYONE FOR THIS PATHETIC PERSON TO WIN EVERYTHING IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS DIVISION. THIS IS A JOKE. NO, THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO COUNTRY MUSIC AS WE KNEW IT. SHE IS NO MORE COUNTRY THAN A CUBAN FLOATING OVER ON A PLANK!

  2. She can't sing, she can't hit notes. She is simply connecting with teens with love lyrics and teens are the biggest spending market. She is basically a stage show.
The last stripper performance was horrible. She would've never been looked at in the 80's or 90's…when you had to have talent like Patty Loveless.

I understand it's big money to have all these teens bringing attention to country. So let them have a good time. Give her entertainer awards, video, song, ect…but it's an insult to give her vocal awards.

  3. Hey there,

There is nothing wrong with Taylor being successful in both country and pop music fields because her music genre is country-pop. I'm not too into country music, I admit. But I do know and like some artists whose music is labeled to be country but mixed with pop or rock (like Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes.)

I don't get why people are so mad at Taylor winning the awards. She may not get a bless from God on her vocal to be strong. But, she still can sing (it's just her vocal is not strong) and has other talents and hard-working on her music. She deserves the honor. Nobody says only artists with a strong vocal can sing (It's like only pretty people can't be a movie star, they need acting talent.) Artists who seem to sing country sometimes mix with pop or other genres and there's nothing wrong.

I'm a fan of Carrie Underwood, too. I know she has a strong vocal. But, all she tried to get into music is winning American Idol (as all we know, because she has a strong vocal.) That's a God's bless. But, if we compare her with Taylor at other talents like playing musical instruments and song-writing, she is not comparable. CU has an angelic and strong vocal talent and TS has other talents and always try harder plus her music is beyond her teen age.

You all are trying to compare A NATURAL PRESENT (VOCAL) and HARD-WORKING. Each has their own goodness. There is nothing wrong with TS winning the awards (But a little surprise winning the entertainer of the year). The only thing wrong is people who keep saying CU is great and TS can't sing. It is like you don't recognize country-pop as a branch of country music. TS deserves the awards!!!

  4. Hey, I don't understand why people here are too mean about Taylor and why people here keep saying that she can't sing. How do you measure being able to sing or not? What do you all even know about music or vocal or whatever? Uh oh, don't get me started from vocal!!

Hey, maybe Carrie Underwood or LeAnn Rimes or Shania Twain (whom i really respect) or many other singers out there can sing with strong vocal. But, a strong vocal is just A GOD'S BLESS. Everyone (including you and me) get different kinds of God's blessing.

Maybe, Taylor's vocal is not as strong as artists mentioned above but it doesn't mean she can't sing. She sill can sing and gets other God-blessing-talents (like song-writing skill and can play some musical instruments which many artists out there lack). Who tells only singers with a strong vocal can sing? Don't even brag if you have a vocal talent because it is purely a natural present.

There is one thing i want you all to know that Taylor's music genre is COUNTRY-POP (sometimes a bit more pop) which is a branch of country music. You all act like you are smart at country music (no offense, i don't know much about country) but you don't know everything about country or you can't say that country-pop is not related to country. Think how Shania Twain can successfully blend country music with pop and rock before. I think what Taylor is trying to do is just like Shania.

She makes people around the world love country music more than before (i am one of them). Her music is much different from any other artists of her age and is beyond her age, i mean, her music is more mature than her age. Taylor Swift deserves all the honors she got this year because she is talented and really did hard-working. A highly selling albums and many records she made this year just prove how talented of her. You can't deny it. The reason why i write this long comment is that i want all the music haters and posers who act like they know everything to shut up!!!! No one will take s**t out of you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I think Hank Williams should be re instated into the grand ole' opry, i also think Hank lll should sing at the next CMA'S to show people what real country music is !!!!!! I think country music is like NASCAR its ran by the big industry and needs to be took back over by ordinary hard working blue collar folks ! Country music is a sell out these days , for crying out loud people we are letting 19 year old girls tell us about love ! I thought we graduated high school . I am just tired of all different artists who cant make it in any other kinda music sinning country music . Its obvious they are not country ! We really need to stand up together and stop this !

  6. What I witnesses last week was despicable and the CMA has lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned. Last year it was Carrie Underwood, this year it was Taylor Swift. Who will it be next year? It's all about money these days and not talent. I don't dislike Taylor, she seems to be a nice girl with a good head on her shoulders and probably a good pop music songwriter. She's not country. But a lot of the country artists these days aren't country. I can live with some of it, some of it I can't. But what I can't live with anymore is the making of a superstar overnight and awarding with them with all of the awards when they truly are not deserved. I certainly won't be watching any of the awards shows anymore. They're not worth it. They don't award those who have worked their butts off to get where they are or have the high-buck management and record labels behind them to buy the awards for them. Enough is enough. I'm done. :(

  8. WE WILL NOT BE TALKING ABOUT TAYLOR A COUPLE YEARS FROM NOW AS SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE VOCAL ABILITY TO ENDURE AS SOME OF THE OTHERS DO. EVEN HER FANS ARE STARTING TO ADMIT THAT. A RECORDING STUDIO CAN MAKE ANYONE SOUND GOOD, LOOK WHAT IT DID FOR KERMIT. SHE WON"T LAST IN COUNTRY MUSIC. AND YOU CAN DEPOSIT THAT IN THE CMA BANK ACCOUNT!

  10. Taylor winning these awards was the biggest joke this year in country music.Taylor can not sing and her performing abilities are not very well at all.Considering who was in the nominations with Taylor and the academy gave her the awards is so wrong. The academy let outside situations away their votes.Taylor may have fv and eoty awards, but we all know why she was given these awards and talent has nothing to do with it.So Taylor enjoy your given awards because sooner or later everyone will wake up.I congrat Brad and Carrie for awesome hosting. They were great.I think Martina was done wrong, when she did not even get to sing one of her songs. She was nominated for fv and was not allowed to sing.Honoring Barbara by singing one of Barbara’s song is not the same. But the academy let Taylor sing 2 of her songs. What is wrong with this?Everything!I do hope the academy is reading all this backlash and will never let outside situations awat their votes again,it is so unfair to all the great talent that is in country music.

  11. Im going to try and say this without being too harsh because I do love Taylor but I am shocked about the awards at the same time. First off, I honestly don't think Taylor is even COUNTRY, shes more like POP. And as a pop singer I love her music very much. I am mostly shocked about female vocalist because it is true that she can not sing as stong as Carrie Underwood. Taylors live performances are a little on the weak side. Her vocal range will never be as good or strong as Carries, Martina's, or Miranda's. I am sorry but its just the truth. Taylor is an amazing songwriter and I think for that and her looks, decent voice, and age has made her so popular. I feel at a loss because Im bashing Taylor but the truth hurts.

  14. Wow…what the Taylor Swift Best Vocalist has done is created a whole big group of Country fans joined together who wonder where were the CMA voters brains and ears on this one! Everywhere I go..they all say the same "Look I like Taylor and she earned most of those awards but when she got Vocalist..I turned it off" Even TS fans are saying that "yeah we love Taylor and her music but ..she shouldn't have got vocalist" Also …look at these newspaper columnist:s:

The REALLY????? Award-from editors of THAT NASHVILLE SOUND
It was Taylor Swift’s night, pulling home Video Of The Year, Album Of The Year and the coveted Entertainer Of The Year. After the year she’s had, all of that could be understood. But Female Vocalist Of The Year? With her consistent off-tone live performances, you wonder where’s Simon from American Idol when you need him.

From the LA times music blog :
Swift started things out with a version of “Forever and Always” that was glitzy and high-concept — and off-tune, a consistent characteristic of Swift’s live outings that gave the lie to her one undeserved triumph, for best female vocalist. The prize should have gone to Carrie Underwood, country’s most powerful young singer and the evening’s co-host with Brad Paisley

    Entertainment Weekly:
Worst Judges’ Decision Of The Night: Awarding Taylor Swift the Best Female Vocal award. Look: I think she’s a terrific songwriter; I even think her all-stops-out stage show earned her the big one, Entertainer of the Year. But her voice is thin, and sometimes as wobbly as a newborn colt. Sorry, Taylor, when placed against the competition in this category — Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Miranda Lambert, and Underwood — you just aren’t the best singer.

muspirit on November 14, 2009 at 2:25 pm
    • To heck with the CMA. I agree 100% with Entertainment Weekly. Like the legendary Kris Kristofferson, songwriting is Swift's biggest talent. Female Vocalist of the Year? I say B-A-L-O-G-N-A! The show's co-host from Checotah, Oklahoma should have won that award. She's got the pipes and should host next year's show by herself. I don't give a flip if she didn't tour. Her string of No. 1's continues (eleven in a row now, twelve if you count "Inside Your Heaven," and her videos keep me wondering, "What's next?" Carrie Underwood IS the Female Vocalist of Country Music, and she's going to be around for a long time.

God Bless the ACM. They have their heads together. I'm done with the CMA.

  15. What is wrong with you people? Taylor is a great person and a very talented singer/songwriter. Whether you like it or not she is bringing young people to country music. I personally used to hate country music until I started listening to Taylor, now i love all country music, from Alan Jackson to Toby Keith to David Allen Coe. I can honestly say country is now my favorite genre by far, and thats because of her. The only award I can see the concern over would be Top Female Vocals. Having said that, she won, so get over it. As for the comparison to Paris Hilton, are you kidding me? I'm not even going to explain the problem with that. She has worked hard for what she has and deserves all of it.

  17. To Taylor Swift.
Please leave Country Music if you have any decency.
You are making a complete mockery of this once great establishment.

    CMA,
I am ashamed of what you have done, and your actions have scarred country music forever.
Go ahead. Endorse Taylor. But I’ll have you know that you have lost me as a fan forever. Congratulations.

  18. What a dissappointment///Listened to country music all my life.which has been a long life..I just cannot imagine how a girl of 19 can can stand up on the stage and say how she has worked all her life for these awards. WHAT at 19 ?????What a joke /// What about the ones that worked as janitors and sang at Tootsie/s lounge while trying to get their record deals..They are the ones who earned theirs. So I will be absent for the next award show.Song writer? Come on listen to the ones who can really write a song, and sing it on key.

  19. I AGREE tAYLOR DID NOT DESERVE THE FEMALE VOCALIST AWARD OR THE ENTERTAINER OF THR YEAR AWARD.
CARRIE HAD MORE NO#1 HITS THAN SHE HAS. SHE IS THE NOT THE SINGER THAT MARTIN, FAITH, REBA, MARANTHA,CARRIE IS. THE BEST PART OF THE SHOW WAS CARRIE AND BRAD HOSTING. I AM THRU WATCHING THE THE AWARDS SHOW. GEORGE STRAIT OR KEITH SHOULD HAVE GOT THE ENTERTAINER AWARD. SHE ACTED LIKE SHE WAS AT A ROCK CONCERT. KELLIE PICKER NOT LIKE THAT. IT IS ALL THE LITTLE YOUNG TEENS THAT LIKE HER.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HER WORDS WHEN SHE IS SINGING.

  20. I am a Taylor Swift fan and I do agree that Taylor Swift brought lots of attention and lots of new fans to Country Music but that's because in my honest opinion she is being labeled off as a Country Singer and has her songs played on both Country and Pop Stations. I am originally from Brooklyn, NY and every time I go back to visit I blast Country Music. As you know New York doesn't know much about Country Music as Country Music is rarely ever played there and there are no Country Stations there at the moment. The last time I went to NYC I blasted Country Music and all my friends who either didn't know what Country Music is or were Country Music haters couldn't get enough of Keith Urban's music. If Keith Urban's "I wanna kiss a girl" or Lady Antebellum's "Need You now" were played on Pop Stations I guarantee you they would both be HUGE hits. A friend of mine told me how he was listening to a top 40 station in Brooklyn, NY and he heard someone call up and request Lady Antebellum and the DJ hadn't a clue who they were. I honestly believe that MANY of today's standards for what's considered a Country Song could grab the attention of Pop lovers.

In my honest opinion, the 90's were my FAVORITE decade of Country Music and still MANY people would have considered the 90's as too pop.

Today's Country Music is seriously destroying Country Music's reputation. Don't get me wrong. I happen to like today's stuff but it honestly doesn't have that Country feel that Country Music used to have. I know with today's Country Music my friends won't be teasing me as much as 90's Country Music but that's because today's Country Music hardly sounds Country.

In my opinion Keith Urban should have won Entertainer of the Year. He has worked hard for it for MANY years.

If Taylor Swift is a genuine Country Singer then how come she allows non-Country Stations to use a pop beat instead of a Country Music beat on her songs?

I remember Kelly Pickler saying that she would NEVER let any non-Country Stations alter the beat to her music. She said that she sings Country and if other stations refuse to play her music because it sounds Country so then let it be it. Now that's being loyal to the Country Music genre.

There are sooo MANY genuine Country Singers that do NOT get the recognition that they sooo deserve.

    Billy Currington

    Emerson Drive

    Chris Young

    Jason Aldean

    Reba McEntire

    Gretchen Wilson

    Josh Turner,

    Craig Morgan,

    Lee Ann Womack

    Jake Owen

    To name a few.

If you are going to sing Country then sing authentic Country Music otherwise Country Music Stations should change their names to Country Pop.

It reminds me of when I called up 99.5 The Wolf in Dallas, TX and they refused to play "Hal Ketchum – One More Midnight Rider" because in their opinion it sounded too Country and the ironic thing was that they were a Country Station but they were trying to attract a younger audience by ONLY playing Country Pop. It's ridiculous!

I am NOT even a Carrie Underwood fan but even I have to admit that she sooo deserved the Female Vocalist Award and NOT Taylor who can't keep a note.

I also don't feel that Taylor Swift deserved to win the Entertainer of the Year award. I honestly believe that the Country Music Industry takes one or two people and ONLY focuses to publicize those acts.

  21. i just want to say that as a singer/songwriter myself…it almost makes me lose hope in the country music industry. is there a place for "real" artists who write about "grown up issues" or have they just learned from Miley and Taylor where the money is at???? I mean obviously there is a market for teens….tweens….and 3 year olds…but why is the great music of carrie, Miranda Lambert…martina, sugarland…losing to a Marketing Ploy that realized that kids would force their parents to buy her albums????? wouldn't you give taylor and scott borchetta the "genius marketing strategy of the century award" rather than entertainer or best female vocalist. one question too..why was she throwing furniture…and laying on the floor rubbing her hands all over herself???? Her voice was off pitch as you all know….which i guess Pro Tools and Pitch Correct can fix anything. I think she needs a Few million more voice lessons with Brett Manning and I am disgusted that the older/adult country music fans have not gotten off their bums and outvoted the teens…I guess it's cause they are all busy working while their teenagers are online voting…..hmmm….so how can the awards really be fair????? maybe we should make cmt award voting day a holiday so parents can take off work and vote for the people who should really be winning.
taylor….i am happy for you girl…your dad was a genius when he paid scott borchetta to give you a career…and scott was even smarter for realizing what a major "frenzy" a teen idol in country music would be…….but i kinda feel like you will be the next leann rimes..although she actually has an amazing voice…..and your light will burn out quickly…when the millions of teens decide they like the next big thing better. it's too bad right now that these great women performers are being overshadowed by a fad. Did you see Miranda's face??? she knew you had it….and she sang her ass off!!! she was obviously annoyed.
I guess im done….Just please stop slinging your hair around like your in an 80's band……it's not country or classy at all….and if you can't sing on pitch….live …they have a pitch corrector they can put on your microphone to help you out.
for those fans saying she can sing…OPEN YOUR EARS!
and next time vote for some real talent.
she doesn't even write her songs.
she sits in co-write sessions with writers who write them….and she may add a few words here or there…..
if you have ever been to nashville you know that.
Rose —-somebody don't know her last name…but she wrote Tim Mcgraw….not taylor.

    wheeew…
    im so annoyed with CMA'A

  22. I blogged in on another site but more need to here my opinion on Taylor Swift winning Four Awards. Maybe I’m being naive but isn’t the winner suppossed to be the best singer. Because she is so not I don’t even know how she even has a career in country music. There is know way anyone with hearing can believe that she is better than Martina McBride or Carrie Underwood and Reba. More comments need to be made by other outraged country music fans. Don’t let this just rest because everyone who is upset over Taylor Swifts awards should sound off?

    Janet O'Halloran on November 12, 2009 at 9:57 pm
    • I so agree with you!!! I was so upset that Martina, Reba, Carrie or Miranda didn't win. I didn't care who won, I love them all. I have a daughter who is 20 and she can't stand Taylor either. She said that she sings the same song with different lyrics. They all sound the same and she can't sing! She sounded awful last night and I didn't watch it anymore after she sang.

I like Taylor's Swifts music and I do feel she deserves to win some awards (Just NOT Country Music Awards) but most certainly NOT Entertainer of the Year and NOT Female Vocalist of the Year. Either way CONGRATULATIONS to Taylor Swift on her success. :)

In my opinion it appears that every single singer that won a CMA Award last night sang Country Pop but NOT one Genuine Country Singer won an award. Why is that so and how is that fair?

kalmanizer on November 13, 2009 at 9:06 am
    • Maybe she should. She might be a little bit more in tune. Sorry, I have nothing against her, BUT SHE CAN'T CARRY A TUNE………
All of the other nominees deserved this more than her, but Carrie, should have won hands down. Her voice is flawless. All I can say is CMA screwed up big time by giving her the FVOTY AWARD…….HOPE THEY KNOW THIS BY NOW. THEY SHOULD AFTER ALL OF THE COMMENTS.

  24. It was a tragedy for Taylor Swift to win those awards. There are so many great artists that deserved to be rewarded. Were those sympathy votes for her?
She isn't even in the same class as Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, let alone Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride or Miranda Lambert.
Better change the way votes are counted or CMA will become DOA.

Jeanne on November 13, 2009 at 12:48 am
  25. I almost turned the tube off after the Female Vocalist category, but thought that the CMAs would redeem themselves with the entertainer of the year award, I was wrong. I hope Taylor knows how really bad she is and is in this just for the noteriety and money, it would be a great shame if she thinks she can really sing. She has to know that when she is up against the likes of Reba and Martina for female vocalist and wins that something is screwed up. If she thinks she is that good I really feel for her because at some point she is going to be disappointed. For that matter, if anyone thinks she is even remotely that good they shouldn't be listening to country music, oops, I guess they aren't.

Martina Fan on November 13, 2009 at 12:37 am
  26. Flat, off key, and just really bad! Taylor Swift is no Reba, Martina, or Carrie, these are the real vocalists. TS must have some real geniuses in the studio to fix that crap. Can't figure out why the other nominees for entertainer of the year would even have her open for them other than she draws the teen girls to buy tickets. Sad, sad day for the CMAs and country music.

  31. You are all airing your thoughts on Taylor's opening performance and I agree, it was horrendous, but there was another performance that made my skin crawl. Carry Underwood was slutty and shameful doing that nasty number (Cowboy Casanova). She has made herself look very small in my eyes. Look back on her in the beginning. She started her career with JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL for God sakes. Country music has always been a gender of music I could be proud to say I was a fan of. This type of filth should not be allowed on the country music stage. Be careful Carry, this profession is changing you and not in a good way. Get back to the sweet beautiful singer you were in the beginning. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!

  33. I was afraid she would win all the awards she won last night. The media is making her out to be this wonderful singer. Well, she can't sing! She is flat and sings off key. And to agree with another person, she needs to stop flinging her hair around, it is so distracting and weird! I would have been happy with any other artist winning the female vocalist and entertainer of the year award. The other artists can actually sing on key! I can see where she would win album of the year because she sold so many, but that is to teeny boppers! The rest of us don't or won't buy her album! I want an album that has some different songs on them, not the same old same old stuff! I found out on line that she was winning all these awards so I didn't watch the show and I guess from all the comments, I am glad I didn't!

  35. I was disgusted by what I seen Taylor Swift do last night at the CMA's. The song, the dancing and hair touching were horrible. I like her music, but she is slightly overrated and did not impress me by her live performances. The opening act had me wanting to turn the channel.

  36. Apparently there are tone deaf people in Nashville! I cannot believe anyone actually thinks Taylor Swift can sing. She has one note and one topic for all of her song writing skills! I know the tweens love her, but most adults who know music would differ. I will not watch anymore of the country music shows if this keeps up. First she preformed numerous times on the CMT Awards and now she preforms twice last night. Flinging that hair around……….So many good artists who did not preform is just awful!

  37. I thought country music in australia was in dire straits. That was so so disappointing to watch. Why do america's top country artists even bother attending this pile of crap. Talent just fades into obscurity. Brad didn't even look into it with his performance, cause he knew a talentless budgie was about to clean up! I would rather watch brittany lip sync. Zac Brown rips everybody, lets see y'all put someone deserving like him up on a pedastool! Na stick to what y'all fed, crap like us in oz..

  38. We saw TS at a Stagecoach Festival and we could not believe that she is allowed to perform. She needs YEARS of voice lessons and a serious voice coach. Then MAYBE she can try to get people to accept her as a singer. Right now, she is getting on stage and pretending to be a singer. Worst of all, she is being rewarded for having no talent. Anyone can run around a stage, but not anyone can captivate an audience with real vocal talent. She has accepted awards that are not hers. What a nightmare for her! We are wondering who made it possible for talentless people to win awards? Who are these people who supposedly voted for her? We need to know. Something is not right.

  39. To everyone complaining, or surprised That the Best selling artist of the year took home all the awards, are kidding yourselves. The entertainment industry is just that, an industry, so the only thing that matter to them is money. You want them to fix it, then stop buying CDs unless they are FANTASTIC. "OK" or "Well, I liked that one song." is not good enough! If you kids want it, pirate it. Stop feeding the machine. DEATH TO BAD MUSIC.
