When Taylor Swift won Entertainer of the Year at last month’s Country Music Association Awards, she supplanted Kenny Chesney at the top of the organization’s food chain. Now, she’s taking his place in Boston, too, selling out Gillette Stadium Saturday in a mere 20 minutes, according to The Attleboro Sun Chronicle.
Taylor becomes the first female solo artist to top the bill at the home of the New England Patriots’ football team, though she’s hardly the only country artist to do that. Toby Keith sold out the stadium in Foxborough, Mass., at least once, and Kenny’s done it every summer since 2005.
Each of the last three years, Kenny’s headlined Gillette as the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year. With Taylor cruising through on June 5, it will mark the fourth straight year the venue has sold out the house for the CMA champ.
It also marks the first time Taylor, who turns 20 on Sunday, holds top billing at a stadium. She’ll be joined on the bill by Kellie Pickler, 15-year-old pop singer Justin Bieber and Gloriana.

And the fact that she gets Kellie Pickler out to the audiences shows what a great friend she is – I am sorry, but Kellie just can't sing. Not only is Taylor a great entertainer, she is respectable, as well. My granddaughter who is almost 10, loves her too, thanks to my buying her a TS CD last year for Christmas. I feel sorry that some people think that perfect pitch is what country music is about. Old country music was never about that. Go listen to Hank Williams then come back here and tell me he is not a good singer because he sings through his nose and is a little pitchy. By "replacing Kenny," they don't mean she is trying to take his place in the world of country, they are simply commenting on how Taylor is the headlining act this year as opposed to Kenny for the last 4 or however long he has been playing at Gillette. And unless Kenny goes on another big summer tour in 2011, someone else will replace Taylor as the headlining title at Gillette.

There's only one big country radio station near me (WKLB Boston, near Gillette Stadium which is all that should matter in this discussion), but I hardly ever hear Taylor on it, so I don't understand why people have such an issue. I can't go an hour without hearing the same songs by Kenny or Tim or Shania or whatever, and it's always the same when I travel and listen to other country stations.
In comparison, Taylor is not played as often as the others, so calm yourself.

I'm pretty sure the Patriots record has absolutely nothing to do with Taylor's ticket sales. Actually, I know it has nothing to do with it. I am a Patriots fan and a Taylor Swift fan, so I know there is no correlation, since it's football season now and Taylor's not coming till the summer.
And she continues to identify as a country singer, and that is how everyone else views her. And she's not likely to slow down for quite some time.

Winning Entertainer of the Year doesn't mean she can headline a major football stadium, the concert of the year in New England, and have little whiny teenagers opening for her. I'm from Massachusetts too and I know plenty of people who are excited about Taylor's concert, and many of them are adults.
I'm from MA and I was peeved I couldn't get tickets to this, because the last time she was supposed to be in MA with Brad Paisley she was sick.
And not many country artists make it up here, although I did have the good fortune of seeing some last summer (Blake Shelton, George Strait, Dierks Bentley, and Brad Paisley – all were great).
I'm not actually a fan of Kenny, though I would have liked to see his show, but for a less country loving area, I feel like Taylor's going to do a good job.

In 2008 he sold it out in 15 minutes and last year in 2009 it took about 8 if I remember correctly. It will be interesting to hear what 56,000 teenage girls screaming sounds like. And before you get your panties in a twist, there's always the WKLB Country fest in May-ish at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA where they'll have others.
My son took my granddaughter to Taylor's concert here in Indy in October, that was all she wanted for her birthday this year. Not only did my granddaughter (who is almost 10) love the concert, my son who is 37, said it was great. He said he would go again if she comes back to Indy. Taylor writes her own songs, she can sing, and she still has class. I would much prefer my granddaughter admire Taylor Swift than some of these other so called artists, be it sports figures, or singers. Taylor has my vote anyday.
I find this to be ridiculous. The "New England Country Music Festival" is the concert of the summer around here. People start tailgating really early in the morning and don't stop until Kenny's major opening acts come out (like in recent years, Keith Urban and Sugarland). Who is going to tailgate at a Taylor Swift show?? The tweens who like her? Crazy.
