For someone who had never had an album before, Sarah Buxton got quite a bit of press. It helped that she wrote “Stupid Boy,” Keith Urban’s Grammy-winning hit. It also helped that she was a finalist two straight years for the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist trophy.
Still, she spent many years frustrated as an artist. She played a lot of shows but always had to tell fans that there was no album they could buy. That all changes Tuesday with the release of her self-titled debut.
“I finally feel,” she told The Frederick News-Post of Maryland, “like I’m getting this ball rolling.”
The first single from the album has only increased Sarah’s presence. The bubbly, effervescent “Outside My Window” has been on the country singles chart for 33 weeks, reminding listeners — and Sarah — that we’re surrounded by possibility, much of which we take for granted. The song, and its message, grew out of watching a bird crash repeatedly into a window pane. Sarah tried to imagine the bird’s thought process, then went to town on the idea with co-writers Victoria Shaw, Gary Burr and Mark Hudson.
“The song took off from that,” Sarah said. “The meaning it began to take on with me was there’s this crazy world with all this stuff going on.”
The video was shot for about $80, bringing more awareness to Sarah. In addition, she joined the Shine All Night Tour with Martina McBride and Trace Adkins, helping showcase her talents a little more. Now, with Sarah Buxton finally hitting the marketplace, she can tell concert-goers for the first time that she does indeed have an album. As a result, she feels like a more complete artist.
“I just started crying when I saw the CD,” she said. “There was a time when I thought it would never happen.”
She celebrates with a release party Tuesday at The Rutledge in Nashville. She’ll also be featured in a GAC special, Premiere: Sarah Buxton, at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday. The episode encores three times on Wednesday. You can also go to Sarah’s artist page on GACTV.com and watch her sing all 11 cuts from her debut album!
