You’ve seen him on awards shows, you’ve seen him at stadiums, you’ve seen him on TV. Now you can see Kenny Chesney at your local theater with Wednesday’s debut of his concert picture, Kenny Chesney: Summer In 3D.

The movie uses footage captured by 22 cameras during his 2009 performances at stadiums in five different cities: Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, Boston and Indianapolis. And while it’s not really a romantic picture, it is indeed about a relationship.

“It really shows the relationship and the love affair that I have between me and the fans in a way that I’ve never seen it,” he says. “And what’s really exciting for me is it’s in a way that they’ve never seen it. They never get to see it from my perspective. I’ve always felt like, you know, like even in the middle of a song, I would go, ‘Wow, I wish these people could see what I see, and feel what I feel,’ and they get to now.”

The movie got its first public showing April 14 in Knoxville, where the screening raised $130,000 for a children’s charity, according to WBIR-TV. Kenny held the Las Vegas premiere on Saturday, and the audience included Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Jewel, Dierks Bentley, Morgan Freeman and Matthew McConaughey.

Despite the fact that he’s now in theaters, Kenny does not see himself as a threat to anyone in Hollywood.

“People are goin’ to the movie theaters and seein’ my poster up, and they’re goin’, ‘Well, you’re a movie star now,’” he notes. “I say, ‘N-n-n-no I’m not.’ Nowhere close. I don’t want to be. And that’s been the big question, you know, ‘Are you gonna do more movies?’ Well, no, I’m not really makin’ a movie. We just documented what I do. I don’t aspire to do that. So one thing this film has taught me: that it’s a lot of work to make a film, and I really love makin’ music more.”

Kenny Chesney: Summer In 3D will be in theaters for only two weeks. His current single, “Ain’t Back Yet,” is the end theme for the picture.
