Miranda Lambert’s single “The House That Built Me” is taking up semi-permanent residence at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart as it spends a second week at No. 1.
It’s a great moment for Miranda, who had a tough time just cracking the Top 10 with songs from her first two albums. Following on the heels of “White Liar,” she’s now had two that have peaked at No. 1 from her current album Revolution.
The public isn’t alone in its praise of “House.” When Billboard asked four different songwriters what song they wished they’d written, each of them cited “The House That Built Me.” And Miranda’s heard about the performance from several of her artist peers.
“I think it’s gonna start its own revolution in itself, because everybody I’ve talked to says, ‘You made me go back to the house… that I grew up in’ or ‘I’m going to in the spring’ or whatever,” she notes. “You know, even Joe Don [Rooney] the other day, from Rascal Flatts, was tellin’ me that they just tore his down ’cause the town was bought out that he grew up in. They just tore his house down, and he was just torn up about it even tellin’ me about it. It’s a really touching song. I mean, it’s good to know that it makes everybody else feel the way it made me feel the first time I heard it.”
Miranda is likely to perform “The House That Built Me” Friday night when she appears at Nashville’s LP Field during the CMA Music Festival. The show is being shot for an ABC special, “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock.” Others on the bill that night include Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Josh Turner, Kid Rock and Julianne Hough.
