Kellie Pickler has not been fond of June 15 since her grandmother, Faye Pickler, passed away. Now though, instead of somberly marking her grandmother’s birthday, Kellie can celebrate it as the day she became engaged to songwriter Kyle Jacobs at sunset on a beach in Florida.
”It turned out to be the most amazing day of my life,” Kellie told PEOPLE magazine. “My whole world changed. We both feel like we got my grandmother’s blessing.”
Kellie likened Kyle’s proposal to a dream. “I remember saying to Kyle, ‘Baby it’s like I’m dreaming – but if this isn’t real, I’m going to be very upset!’” Kellie said.
Kyle put a lot of detail into planning the proposal. He arranged for a blanket, champagne and candles to be waiting for them along their beach stroll. “Afterward, we just held each other and had the most beautiful prayer,” Kyle said to PEOPLE. “We had a little champagne and talked and laughed and cried.”
Kellie and Kyle met through friends 2 ½ years ago. Kellie, who was raised by her grandparents after her mother left and her father went to jail, credits Kyle with showing her how to have a healthy relationship. She plans to have her father, who she has reestablished a relationship with, walk her down the aisle. “Kyle took away all my fear of marriage and has shown me the way love is supposed to be,” she said. “I’m in the happiest place I’ve ever been.”
With fellow country artists Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert planning their own weddings, will there be a lot of nuptials talk going on between them?
“We’re all just happy for each other,” Kellie said. “I’m sure we’ll be having some girl talk and we’ll share ideas. We just keep joking about how there must be something in the water!”
Kellie might sing about throwing rocks instead of rice at a wedding, but it seems like there will be plenty of rice to go around when Kellie and Kyle tie the knot.
