Craig Morgan Takes Outside Shot at TV

When Craig Morgan chose to pursue a career in music, he probably never envisioned that it would lead him to compete against cartoon lineups on Saturday mornings.

But that’s indeed what takes place when he debuts a new reality series, “Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors,” on the Outdoor Channel this weekend. The series promises a range of events from his life — motocross racing, hijinx on the bus and even bungee jumping in New Zealand.

“I’ve been asked to do an outdoor show for years, and I’ve participated on a lot of other outdoor shows as a guest,” Craig says. “I actually co-hosted the [PBS show] ‘Tennessee’s Wild Side’ about eight years ago, which was a lot of fun. It was my first experience, so I learned a lot on that show. And it just felt like the timing was right. The concept is how we integrate all of my outdoor activities with my life — in particular, my touring.”

Not so ironically, this weekend Craig is integrating TV and touring. He’ll play shows Friday in Varysburg, N.Y.; Saturday in Pittsburgh; and Sunday in Fairmont, W.Va. Meanwhile, he’ll appear on the tube in several different ways. WSB-TV in Atlanta will feature him singing “Almost Home” with a soldier on the previously taped “Salute 2 America Celebration.” And GAC re-airs the special Stars For Stripes: Wounded Warriors Return twice on Sunday and twice on Monday. Also starring Chris Young and GAC’s Nan Kelley, the telecast finds them visiting military bases and hospitals in Germany and Iraq.
