Little Big Town and Craig Morgan will each throw on helmets and hit the road in the coming weeks as they host motorbike rides for charity in Tennessee.
Little Big Town’s Ride for the Cure takes place Sunday morning with an afternoon concert. Craig’s is a two-day event next month that includes a trail ride with motorcross professionals the first day and a performance at a local school the next.
“Every year we look forward to this day when we can get together with our fans and enjoy a beautiful ride, some great music and raise money for a cause that’s so dear to our hearts,” LBT’s Kimberly Schlapman says.
This is the fourth year for Little Big Town’s ride, which begins at the Tin Roof near Music Row in Nashville and proceeds 55 miles down Interstate 65 to a Harley-Davidson Superstore in Columbia. There the band will headline a show that features Luke Bryan, Josh Thompson and The Band Perry.
It marks a bit of a change for the ride. The previous three years, it’s been held during the week of the CMA Music Festival in June. Money raised from the event is earmarked for the T.J. Martell Foundation, which supports AIDS, cancer and leukemia research.
The Craig Morgan Charity Ride is set for Aug. 7 in Vanleer, Tenn., with participation by motocross pros Kevin Windham, Cowboy Kenny Bartrum, Fred Andrews and Barry Hawk. Craig, who’s an avid motocross rider, once had severe accidents just six weeks apart during dirt-bike competitions. He broke his left wrist and suffered a concussion in April 2006, then — while still recovering from those injuries — broke his right leg in May.
Participants are not required — or even expected — to give their bodies at this year’s charity ride, which is being held for a good cause: the Craig Morgan Charity Fund, directly involved with Billy’s Place, a home for temporarily displaced children.
To close his charity ride, Craig plays Dickson Middle School Aug. 8 with special guest Aaron Tippin.
