It’s been three years since Kenny Chesney released his last true studio album, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates. Since then, he’s released Lucky Old Sun and Kenny Chesney: Greatest Hits II which he considered special projects instead of mainstream albums. Having taken a year off from touring largely to concentrate on recording a new studio album, Kenny is set to share that album, Hemingway’s Whiskey, with fans on September 28th. On Monday, the highly anticipated first single, “The Boys Of Fall,” was released to radio.
The track is a tribute to high school football, a sport Kenny played while growing up in East Tennessee. It is also the inspiration behind the upcoming documentary he has been working on for the last year.
“I learned how to work hard on the football field,” he says. “I learned how to trust people on the football field. I learned humility on the football field. I learned teamwork on the football field. And all those things apply to what you do in your life. If you learn that early on, you have a chance to be really great at somethin’.”
The song isn’t available for download yet and the full album won’t be out for a while, but Kenny has uploaded the song to YouTube for fans to check out.
