Ever since Chuck Wicks released his steamy single “Hold That Thought,” women have been responding to its I’ve-been-fantasizing-about-you message. One 77-year-old fan in particular got to live out a little fantasy when she ended up sitting on his lap while he sang his romantic anthem.

The fan, whose name is Rita, called in to the Pat & Tom morning show at KNCI in Sacramento a few weeks back requesting “Hold That Thought.” Rita went on and on about how much she loved the song and how hot she thought Chuck was, and she had so much energy that the hosts — Pat Still and Tom Mailey — fell in love with her. Before she hung up the phone, they made it a point to get her number.

Maybe a week later, they were able to hook Chuck and Rita up on a call, but it wasn’t long before the station put them together in person. Chuck had a concert at the Stoney Inn and surprised Rita by calling her onstage when he performed “Hold That Thought.” She sat on his lap for the first half of the song, and she sang along with him right through the end.

“It was one of those moments,” KNCI’s Tom Mailey wrote in an email, “that renews your appreciation for our format and for artists like Chuck, who ‘get’ that one of country’s basic appeals is and always will be its approachability (if that’s a word) and unpretentiousness.”

If you’ve got your own fantasies about re-enacting “Hold That Thought,” Chuck’s upcoming gigs include a July 31 Grammy Block Party show in Santa Monica, an Aug. 6 date in Des Moines and an Aug. 7 show in Indianapolis.
