When Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher married Carrie Underwood July 10, he knew what he was getting into. The bride is beautiful, talented and under a lot of scrutiny.

Because of that, any man on her arm is also going to be the source of public interest — especially when his job is the kind of public vocation that a pro athlete pursues. So when when Mike broke to chat with reporters during a hockey camp for kids in Canada on Wednesday, he was prepared for an onslaught of relationship-related questions, including how he’s adjusting to paparazzi.

“It is what it is,” he said, according to Canada’s CTV. “I’m never really used to it. She’s used to it, but it’s a little different for me and [I’m] learning to deal with it. It’s part of life I guess now, and you can use it for good or bad, too.”

While he’s stepped into the spotlight, Mike is well aware that the cameras are primarily focused on his wife.

“If I’m with her,” he said, “they’re not looking at me, so that’s good.”

Mike and Carrie will have a lot of logistics to work out with the marriage. She lives in Nashville but spends a lot of her time on the road playing concerts in other cities. He lives in Ottawa but spends a lot of his time on the road playing games in other cities.

“Probably the airport will be the main residence,” he joked. “There will be lots of travelling.”

One date the couple has likely already circled in red: Dec. 23. Ottawa will be in Nashville for a game that day against the NHL Predators at Bridgestone Arena. It’s the only time the two teams meet this year, and it comes at the same venue where Carrie co-hosted the CMA Awards each of the last two years. The Senators, incidentally, will have Christmas off. After the Nashville game, their next match comes Dec. 26 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Ottawa.

Look for Carrie tonight on GAC’s Superstar Sessions at 8 p.m. ET.
