Carrie Underwood Gone Wong, Very Wong

I think we may have located William Hung’s uncle living under the radar in Wichita, Kansas.

You may remember William Hung as the American Idol season 3 contestant who enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame thanks to a gut wrenching, laugh out loud performance of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs”  in 2004.

Fast forward back to 2010 and the Towne West Mall in Wichita, where 52-year old Robert Wong took the stage to perform his own over the top version of Carrie Underwood’s chart topping hit “Before He Cheats.”  The performance is Mr. Wong’s entry into a “Carrie-Oke” contest local TV station KSN-3 is running.

Like a caged tiger, Mr. Wong took the stage and most certainly shocked anyone within earshot. Watch his fist-clenching performance here:

Mr. Wong took that stage and for just a few minutes in time, he owned it.   He sang that song from the depths of his soul, pure emotion pouring out with each and every lyric.  And for that he should be commended.    That said, it’s a toss up whether he should put his money into singing lessons or anger management classes.  My vote is for the latter.  All joking aside,  this guy has got guts.

I’m not sure if Mr. Wong will end up winning the contest or not, but he most certainly is getting his 15-minutes of fame thanks to the internet.  Eat your heart out William Hung.

What do you think of Mr. Wong’s passionate performance?
