Kenny Chesney recently unveiled his Boys Of Fall documentary on high-school football, which dovetails quite nicely with his current hit.
But music isn’t the only thing the film overlaps with — it also carries some symbolism for life. Winning, losing, overcoming adversity, working with others, maintaining focus — those are all themes in sports and in the everyday stories of average people.
“I knew that I was not gonna play college football — I knew that there would be an end,” Kenny says. “That’s just like life, too. John Madden, when I was interviewing him, said the best thing. He goes, ‘You know, football is just like life. When you’re playin’, you think you’re gonna play forever.’ And when you’re really playin’ — a lot of my buddies are playin’ football, you know — they’re in the moment. Even in high school, you’re caught up in the moment, and you think you’re gonna play forever, but you’re not. And I think that this song really puts a lot of my life in there.”
“The Boys Of Fall” is the first single from the next chapter in Kenny’s creative life. The Hemingway’s Whiskey album is due Sept. 28.
