Trace’s wife, Rhonda, told Channel 4 News’ Jimmy Carter that everyone got out of the house safely, including their family dog, thanks to a neighbor. Trace was not home; he is currently on his way to Alaska. Rhonda was not home at the time but was called about the fire. The nanny and children were in the home, but escaped, said Trace’s wife, because they had a fire plan in place. The children and the nanny ran outside to a tree.
A neighbor saw the fire and rushed over to save the family dog. The dog, being scared, bit the neighbor, who had to go to the hospital. The neighbor is expected to be fine.
Brentwood Fire Chief Brian Goss told Channel 4 News’ Caroline Moses the fire started in the garage and firefighters are in the clean up stage as of 6:30 p.m. Central this evening. Fire crews will be there most of the evening and into the night Saturday, according to Chief Goss.
Chief Goss said because the fire reached the attic, it spread quickly and was hard to contain. The family had a lot of belongings in the basement and the fire did not reach the basement, but water did.
