There’s a new show on NBC called Smash about folks trying to make it big on Broadway. One of its stars, fifth-season American Idol alum Katherine McPhee, plays Karen Cartwright, a young girl from Iowa in pursuit of her dreams. In tonight’s episode (airing at 10/9c), Karen returns home to Iowa for a friend’s baby shower and ends up singing karaoke in a bar with her friends.
