Jake Owen made his debut on E!’s Chelsea Lately on March 1st and spent the first few minutes defending his home state of Florida to host Chelsea Handler who frequently makes fun of the state for it’s off the wall news stories.

“Ever since 2000 [when] they couldn’t count during the election , we got a lot of s— for that,” Jake said. “But other than that, I’m born and raised there, so I’m actually a true Floridian.” He was quick to point out that she’s from New Jersey to which she responded “I’m not proud of that either…”

Jake’s twin brother Jarrod ended up being a topic of conversation for Jake and Chelsea as well. Jarrod lives in their hometown of Vero Beach, sells insurance and often calls Jake at 4:00 in the morning to help him get a date. According to Jake, the phone calls go something like this:

“‘Dude, dude, dude, just say, ‘Hey,’ to this chick real quick,’” Jake mimicked. “And the girl will be like, ‘I don’t even give a s— who you are, but your brother says that you’re his brother or what not.’ That’s how I help Jarrod, I hook him up with some ladies.”

Jake then backed himself into a bit of a corner, telling Chelsea that Jarrod prefers older women. He also talked about his plans for bringing his family, friends and girlfriend out on the road with him this summer when he hits the road with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw.
