Keith Urban Inspired by the Commitment of Navy SEALS

Keith Urban’s latest single, “For You,” was written for the film Act of Valor which was inspired by real life events and stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALS. Keith was able to spend some time with the SEALS and left impressed with their commitment to service and one another.

“They have a mantra, and they say ‘the only easy day was yesterday’,” said Keith. “They had this spirit of brotherhood and that’s a particular thing that’s very specific to the Seals,” he said. “Military, in general, have this very strong brotherhood code.”

Keith also remembered the testament given by Lt. Roark, the lead SEAL in the film. “When he was interviewed he talked about funerals he had been to and he says, ‘There isn’t really any one of us who isn’t just a little bit jealous of the guy who’s died,’” Keith said. “I heard that, that’s a particular way of being that I cannot relate to. That is an unbelievable depth of commitment and conviction.”

“For You” is about the need to protect. While Keith isn’t a Navy SEAL, he understands and feels the need to protect his family–wife Nicole Kidman and their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

“I can’t imagine what that level of dedication is to the degrees that the SEALS live,” he said. “But since finding my wife and since having our children, I definitely feel that sense of conviction and protectiveness and defensiveness of my family.”
