In a recent interview with England’s The Independent, Carrie Underwood expressed her support of gay marriage. She cited her marriage to pro hockey player Mike Fisher and her Christian faith as encouraging her to speak out about her beliefs, reports Billboard.

“As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love, and want to marry,” Carrie said. “I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”

Raised a Baptist, Carrie and Mike now attend a non-denominational congregation. “Above all, God wanted us to love others,” she said. “It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] ‘everyone has to be like me’. No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It’s not up to me to judge anybody.”

Carrie will release her latest single, “Blown Away,” to radio on July 9. She will hit the road on her Blown Away Tour with tour dates in the UK and Australia this summer before kicking off her North American tour dates September 14 in Manchester, New Hampshire with Hunter Hayes along as special guest.
