Billy Ray Cyrus is headed to Broadway. He will make his Broadway debut as lawyer Billy Flynn in Chicago, reports Broadway.com. The show will run for a limited seven-week engagement November 5 through December 23 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York.
Set in the 1920s, Chicago tells the story of housewife and nightclub dancer Roxie Hart who murders her lover. She hires Billy Flynn, the best criminal lawyer in Chicago, to help her avoid conviction, much to the dismay of her rival cellmate Velma Kelly. The production will be directed by Walter Bobbie.
Chicago currently stars Tracy Shayne as Roxie Hart, Terrc C. MacLeod as Velma Kelly, Tony Yazbeck as Billy Flynn, Roz Ryan as Matron “Mama” Morton, R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine and Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart.
While Billy may be stepping onto the Broadway stage for the first time, his resume has plenty of acting credits. He spent five seasons as Robby Ray Stewart on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana and starred in movies Hannah Montana: The Movie, Flying By, Christmas in Canaan, Christmas Comes Home to Canaan, The Spy Next Door and Mulholland Drive.
Billy has sold 25 million albums internationally and has had three No. 1 hits. His latest album, Change My Mind, is scheduled to be released in late October or early November.
