Thomas Rhett is hitting the pavement, promoting his debut single, “Something To Do with My Hands,” across the country. For a while though, he was hitting the books at David Lipscomb University in Nashville. A business major, he left school to pursue his music career but says he was an okay student overall.

“I didn’t make awesome grades,” he admitted. “I was kind of like a B/C student, never made A’s except in my PE classes! We were required to take a Bible class every semester. It was a Christian college and so I did well in Bible, but my undergraduate classes, like the math and the biology and stuff, I was awful in.”

As his music career starting picking up, it got harder for him to focus on school. “I mean I was writing songs full time and going to college, so every time I’d be studying for a test I’d think, ‘I oughta be calling somebody to go write,’” he said. “So I definitely started to lose my focus toward the end.”

If Thomas ever decides to go back and finish up that degree, he’s only got one year left to go.  His debut single, “Something To Do with My Hands,” is in the Top 15 at radio.
