Kathy Mattea will release her new album, Calling Me Home, on September 11. The project dives deep into her Appalachian heritage with producer Gary Paczosa. The liner notes were pinned by best-selling author Barbara Kingsolver.
“I feel like I just made the album of my life,” Kathy said. “I articulated something I was put here to say. It’s my childhood and life experience of a sense of place and culture and history and family, and of all the music that I’ve learned and all I’ve learned performing all rolled into one thing.”
Calling Me Home is both contemporary and traditional in sound. Some of the top players in the business appear on the album, including Stuart Duncan and Bryan Sutton, bassist Byron House, percussionist Jim Brock, Tim and Mollie O’Brien on harmony and Kathy’s longtime guitarist Bill Cooley.
