Trace Adkins is shining the spotlight on deserving heroes across the country as the host of GAC’s new series, Great American Heroes. The show will follow Trace on his nationwide Songs & Stories tour as he takes a step away from the stage to honor ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their local communities. Great American Heroes premieres Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.

In each episode, Trace meets with three hometown heroes and learns about their efforts, surprising them with a special gift that will help continue their mission. He also hosts the local heroes as special guests at his concert in his hometown. Having endured his own life-changing experiences, he has become a tireless supporter of U.S. troops and other worthy causes.

“A lot of people get attention for the wrong reasons but the true measure of a hero is serving others,” he said. “On Great American Heroes, I will introduce the real people who fit that bill. They devote themselves to others and deserve all the applause we can give them. These heroes will inspire you, make your heart swell and your eyes tear up. This show does more than tell some good stories, it affirms our faith in others.”

Great American Heroes reflects the values and the lifestyles of real people who epitomize what ‘living country’ is all about,” Sarah Trahern, senior vice president and general manager of GAC, said. “The stories we’ll show will leave a lasting impression on GAC viewers.”

Great American Heroes will highlight heroes in 10 communities across the country. In Salina, Kan., Trace will meet a local minister who started a carpentry shop to teach wood-working skills to homeless men. In Charleston, S.C., Trace meets a 13-year old girl who creates community vegetable gardens and donates the harvest to feed people in need. And in Davenport, Iowa, Trace views the work of two sets of parents who develop programs for special needs children.

Episodes of Great American Heroes will re-air on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET following the August 22 premiere.
