Despite false social media rumors that he had passed away over the weekend, George Jones is thankfully alive and well and on the road again. After battling a respiratory infection that sidelined him for a number of shows earlier this year, George returned to the stage this weekend for two concerts. He’s scheduled to play six to eight more shows each month into 2013.
“I love the road,” George said. “I love the fans. I am just a singer and love to sing my songs. Until I’m done I still don’t need no rockin’ chair. Just gimmie that stage and I’ll have at it”.
His show in Massachusetts Saturday night brought a rave review from George Lenker of MassLive.com. “They were there to share the space, be in the same room, and breathe the same air as a country music icon who they cherish,” he wrote. “Jones entered to a standing ovation and left to one… He [is] also clearly still sharp mentally for his age and engaged in great stage banter with both his band and the audience.”
In August, George announced the 2013 The Grand Tour which will be his farewell tour for his fans. The tour will stop in approximately 60 cities. George has decided he is ready to slow down to spend more time with family. For a list of concert dates, visit www.georgejones.com.
