The Grand Ole Opry Celebrated 87th Birthday with Star-Studded Weekend

The Grand Ole Opry celebrated its 87th birthday on Saturday with a star-studded lineup that included Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, Little Jimmy Dickens, Casey James, Ray Stevens, Steve Wariner and more as well as a larger-than-life birthday cake. Throughout the weekend, the Opry hosted backstage tours, star-packed shows and a special Opry Plaza Birthday show.

The party will continue throughout October with a schedule full of special shows and events. On Tuesday, October 16, Darius Rucker will be inducted into the Opry. You can watch his induction ceremony live on GAC’s Noteworthy at the Opry at 9/8 p.m. CT. Clint Black, Vince Gill and Martina McBride are also scheduled to perform.

On Tuesday, October 23, the Opry will honor the life and legacy of Minnie Pearl who was born 100 years ago this month. The special show will pay tribute to Minnie’s humor and Opry career with performances and remembrances by Amy Grant, Little Jimmy Dickens, Vince Gill, Mel Tillis, Pam Tillis, comedians T. Bubba Bechtol and Henry Cho and more.

Kellie Pickler will turn the Opry’s signature barn pink on Tuesday, October 30 as the Opry teams up with Women Rock For The Cure for its fourth annual ‘Opry Goes Pink’ show in support of breast cancer awareness. Sarah Darling, The Farm, The Isaacs, Kristen Kelly, Mindy Smith and more are scheduled to perform. There will also be activities recognizing breast cancer survivors and the continuing fight against the disease.  Five dollars from every ticket sold for the show will be donated to Women Rock For The Cure.

Opry Country Classics will continue on Thursdays throughout October with appearances by Lorrie Morgan, Marty Stuart, Pam Tillis, and The Time Jumpers. To plan an Opry visit, call (800) SEE-OPRY or visit
