Several country stars have stories of selling prized possessions to make ends meet while chasing their musical dreams. Years later, when they’ve had success, they end up buying those possessions back. Brantley Gilbert gave up a car that was near and dear to him – and will have to do some haggling to get it back.
“I had a ’68 Mercury Cougar,” he said. “We went flat broke and needed some equipment. We got rained on and we didn’t have insurance on anything. I loved this car and I sold it to a guy for four thousand dollars. He told me that day that he’d sell it back to me whenever I wanted for four thousand dollars. This was probably six or seven years ago.”
Brantley recently tracked the man down to buy his car back. But the price was a bit higher than what Brantley expected to pay. “He wants twelve grand for it!” Brantley said. “I am not going to pay him that much! He’s going to have to come down a little bit.”
Brantley is currently headlining his Hell On Wheels Tour.
