“Internal Discord” Causes The Civil Wars to Abruptly Cancel Tour

The Civil Wars

The Civil Wars won the Duo/Group of the Year award at the 11th Americana Honors & Awards.

MusicRow reports The Civil Wars, who were in the middle of a European tour with plans for a 2013 tour of Australia and New Zealand, abruptly canceled all future dates. They posted a message to their fans on their website addressing the canceled shows.

“We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates,” the message read. “It is something we deeply regret. However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support.”

While no official announcement has been made regarding their future as a duo, the message alluded to new material in the coming months saying “our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013.” The pair also made a rare attempt to reimburse fans for the expenses incurred following the sudden cancellations.

“We understand that there are many of you stuck with service charges and travel reservations due to our abrupt cancellations,” the note read. “Please email us at info@thecivilwars.com if there are costs incurred that you would like to be reimbursed for, include a scan or attachment to your receipt(s) of the costs, and we will do our best to reimburse you for non-refundable charges.

Joy Williams and John Paul White landed in the national spotlight when their song “Poison & Wine” was featured in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy and gained further attention from Taylor Swift via social media. The success of their gold-certified single “Barton  Hollow” earned them a spot on Adele’s tour and most recently, they were nominated for Musical Event of the Year at the CMA Awards for “Safe and Sound” with Taylor Swift.

The pair has released one studio album, two EPs, three live albums, five singles, and three music videos with Sensibility Music. The duo just released ”I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day” on a compilation album, Holidays Rule.
