A late night phone call between Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley resulted in the Pistol Annies, a sassy trio who made their debut in August 2011 with their Hell On Heels album. The trio are back with their sophomore attempt, Annie Up, set for a May 7 release.

“We laid it on the line with Hell On Heels and we wanted to bring it again on this album,” Miranda said. “The goal of our music is to have people feel like they’re having a conversation with us.”

“We never tried to sit down and write a song,” Angaleena added. “When we’re together, we’re always just writing.” The trio were even writing while in hair and makeup last June during CMA Music Festival, resulting in the song “Unhappily Married.”

The album’s first single, “Hush, Hush,” shipped to radio earlier this week. “After we came back from the holidays we were talking about how horrible it was,” Miranda said with a laugh. “So we took a little bit of truth from each of our family experiences and wrote this song,” Ashley Monroe added.

“It’s about the truth,” Angaleena said of the song. “The truth is so much easier than lie on top of lie on top of secrets. The truth will set you free.”
