Kenny Chesney is known for bringing some of country’s brightest stars along on his summer tours and this year is no exception. Newcomer Kacey Musgraves and Eli Young Band are along for the ride while Eric Church will also take the stage on 16 of the 19 stadium concerts and Zac Brown Band will join for the remaining three stadium shows, including a co-headlining show in their hometown of Atlanta.
“Every year, I try to seek out music I think my fans are going to respond to,” Kenny said. “Maybe turn ’em onto something new like Kacey or get ’em deeper into something they know, but should know a little more like the Eli Young Band. “Plus, to have Eric Church, who I think is the most exciting new guy out there, and Zac Brown Band, when we can get them back out with us, is a pretty great day of music. It’s the kind of thing I’d go see — and I get to hear it every night.”
Kenny, who played to over 70,000 at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo on March 12, kicked off his 2013 No Shoes Nation Tour at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium last Saturday, March 16. He couldn’t wait to get back onstage.
“I’ve played a couple surprise, warm-up gigs: an acoustic Keg In The Keys show at the Hog’s Breath, with just Clayton Mitchell and Kenny Greenburg on guitars and Wyatt Beard on keyboards, then the whole band at Freebird in Jacksonville,” Kenny said. “That sorta thing really fires me up, getting back to the music and being with the fans. But you play a couple of those shows, and you really want to get out there big with all the production, the screaming, the people singing along. And it’s nice hearing the other bands every night when we’re getting ready to get out there and play.”
Kenny’s latest hit, “Pirate Flag,” is at No. 11 on the country charts after just 6 weeks. It is the lead single from his new album, Life On a Rock, out April 30.
