Darius Rucker will share the stories behind the songs on his new album, True Believers, as well as the stage with the songwriters who helped co-write them, in Songtellers with Darius Rucker: The Story of True Believers. Premiering Thursday, June 20 at 10/9c on GAC, the special was filmed at Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre.
“Back in the Hootie days all the songs I wrote, I wrote by myself,” Darius said. “I used to think I had to be inspired to write something and I learned in Nashville that you can write whenever you want.”
During the special, Darius will be joined by each of the songwriters who co-wrote with him on True Believers to share stories and jokes behind the songs before performing the collaboration. “This record is so much my life,” Darius said. “Either the life I’m living now or the life I have lived or the life I want to live.”
Songwriters joining Darius include Darius’ producer, Frank Rogers, Luke Laird, Ashley Gorley, Dallas Davidson, Rhett Akins, Bob DiPiero, Phillip White, Mark Nesler and Josh Kear. Mallary Hope also joins Darius onstage to provide vocals on “I Will Love You Still.”
Darius’ two week No. 1 hit, “Wagon Wheel,” will wrap the special with a finale that brings all songwriters to the stage for a sing-along of the classic cover co-written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor.
