Randy Travis has released “Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum,” a heartfelt tribute to the late George Jones. Recorded by Randy and Joe Nichols, it is the first single from Randy’s new album, expected to be released this fall. The track is available on iTunes.

“It was an honor when I received a request to record this tribute to George Jones, and after I heard how well Keith Gattis had written “Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum,” I was excited to record it,” Randy said. “Thanks to Joe Nichols for coming in and helping on this project.”

Randy debuted “Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum” at the CMA Music Festival during the Remembering George Jones panel session on Friday which included George’s widow, Nancy Jones, longtime drummer Bobby Birkhead, John Rich, Jamey Johnson and host Joseph Hudak of Country Weekly.  The song brought about a standing ovation.

“Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum” was also part of Randy’s performance that night at LP Field.  Fans can listen to the song in its entirety at See photos of Randy’s CMA Music Festival performance HERE.
