Randy Travis‘ sister-in-law, Teresa Traywick, tells People magazine that Randy had heart surgery yesterday. Randy was admitted to a hospital in Texas on Monday in critical condition. His publicist released a statement saying the singer was “suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy.”

“We have been told he has had surgery,” Traywick (the wife of Randy’s brother Ricky Traywick) said. “Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family.

“Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps,” she added. “My prayers are with them. That’s all I can say right now.”

The country music community was quick to reach out with encouraging tweets. “Sending healing strength and love to you this morning @randytravis -KU,” said Keith Urban.

“Lots and lots of prayers needed for my dear friend and a really good guy Randy Travis who is in the hospital with a heart problem in critical condition,” said Sammy Kershaw. “I know that all of you folks out there will jump on this prayer wagon. Thank you all very much.”

“Keep @RandyTravis in your prayers!” said Craig Campbell. “This man had a huge influence on me and my music. #countrymusichero”

Brad Paisley and Billy Ray Cyrus were also among the stars who tweeted prayers and well wishes to Randy.
