Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry of The Band Perry have always played music, but they didn’t always play together. Growing up, the trio were in two separate bands – due to height.
“I’m five years older than Reid and he’s two years older than Neil,” Kimberly explained. “So both of the boys were this tall and I’m this tall. And we always knew that the family band was in the cards in the eventual plan but we had to wait for all the height logistics to even out.”
Once everyone reached an acceptable height, the family band formed and they knew it was meant to be. “I think doing it 13 years [we] kinda got pretty good at knowing how everyone works,” Reid said. “I feel like as a family, we’re able to have the hard conversations but still get along at the end of things.”
“I think being a family band makes it a lot more enjoyable,” Neil agreed. “Like Reid said, we don’t have to sugar coat what we say.”
Having just celebrated their fourth No. 1 with “DONE,” it looks like being in a family band is working out just fine for The Band Perry. But Kimberly is quick to point out the best perk of all. “Well,” she said, “they can’t get rid of you in a family band.”
