Tim McGraw’s latest single, “Southern Girl,” quickly became a fan favorite during his recently wrapped Two Lanes of Freedom Tour. According to Tim, the track blends the past and present from a musical perspective, giving it a somewhat progressive sound.
“It reminds you of something that you might have heard in the ’70s, so it’s got a little bit of both of those worlds,” he said. “It marries both of them together really nicely.”
While Tim is a fan of the sound, what he really likes is the songwriting. “I love the lyric and I love the melody,” he said. “But I really love the lead write in that song where it goes to the lead break, where it goes to sort of an unexpected place and the way it gets back out of that. It’s one of my favorite parts about that song.”
