Taylor Swift has started work on her next album. Like the rest of her catalog, the new album will ultimately represent the next chapter in her life. Fearless, her follow up to her self-titled debut album, was all about finding herself.
“Fearless represents the breakthrough and all the discovery of, ‘Wow. There’s a big, wide world of music and I’ve just been thrown into it and I’m excited, and I’m scared,’” Taylor said.
With Speak Now Taylor felt like she had something to prove so she set out to write the entire project alone. “In my mind it was a little bit lyrically dark and it was something that I’m always gonna be really proud of,” she said.
When it came to her latest album, Red, Taylor wanted to both learn from others and push herself out of the comfort zone of writing songs alone. “I called up all these people I’m a fan of; producers, writers, artists, and just said, ‘I want you to be in on making this record with me. I want your influence,’” she said. “I’d say it was me expanding and learning and taking risks I’d never taken before.”
The new album is in the earliest stages, but Taylor has plenty going on. Her RED Tour is in full swing and will wrap its North American leg with three nights in Nashville later this month. The tour will then head to Australia in November and December. Her latest single, “Red,” is at radio now.
