Cassadee Pope released her debut album, Frame by Frame, last week. What fans may not know is that the project is a actually a return to country music for her.
“I grew up singing country music and that is not something a lot of people knew about me,” she said. “I sang pop rock through my teenage years. That’s all I did and that was the phase I was going through but a lot of people missed out on what I went through as a kid. Because I just never exposed that.”
She’s thrilled to be a part of country music now, especially as the genre continues to evolve. “It’s a great time in country music for someone like me to come in because they’re so accepting to the pop and rock influences,” she said. “From Taylor Swift to Luke Bryan to Hunter Hayes, everybody is doing a kind of different twist on the traditional country sound and I think that’s great that I’m being embraced.”
Even when she was singing pop, the winner of The Voice‘s season three says country music has “always been in my heart. I’m just happy I’m back to my roots but I get to bring back some stuff that I’ve experienced in my recent years.”
Frame by Frame features Cassadee’s debut single, “Wasting All These Tears.”
