Tim McGraw’s song “Highway Don’t Care,” which features Taylor Swift along with Keith Urban on guitar, is up for two CMA Awards, including Music Video of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of the Year. Even though he’s had plenty of nominations over the years, he is always grateful to hear his name listed among the nominees.
“They’re always nice,” he said. “I don’t think anybody does not want to win an award. I’ve been very fortunate to have my career and to be involved in a lot of award shows – nominated, not nominated, win, perform, not win, all those things. Sometimes it’s your year and sometimes it isn’t and sometimes it’s other people’s year.”
Even if it’s not his year, he enjoys attending awards shows. It gives him an opportunity to see the future of country music first hand.
“The great thing about them is you get to see all these new artists,” he says. “You see them win and you see them get nominated and it perpetuates our business,” he said. “It perpetuates our music and our love of music. You see these guys and girls who are coming up and doing great stuff and sometimes [awards shows are] the way they get introduced to the country.”
The CMA Awards will air live on ABC at 8/7c on November 6. Before the show, tune in to Great American Country at 7/6c to watch the CMA Red Carpet Live!
