The hills will come alive on Thursday as Carrie Underwood steps into the spotlight for her much-anticipated performance as Maria in NBC’s production of The Sound of Music Live!, based on the original musical. The companion soundtrack, The Sound of Music – Music from the NBC Television Event hit stores earlier this week.

Airing live on NBC on December 5 at 8/7c, The Sound of Music Live! will also star TV and theater actor Stephen Moyer and Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Laura Benanti. The special will be released to DVD on December 17.

Ahead of the live event, NBC’s Today will air Natalie Morales’ exclusive interview with Carrie along with a look behind the scenes on the set of The Sound of Music Live! with Stephen Moyer. And in the spirit of the season and one of the show’s most famous songs, “My Favorite Things,” Carrie and her fans are sharing their own favorite things.

Continuing through the last Friday of December, fans can post photos or videos on Instagram using the hashtag #FavoriteThingsFriday. Selected posts each will be featured on Carrie’s Facebook page.
