Krystal Keith in the Kitchen: How to Make Whiskey Peach Crumb Cake

You may know Krystal Keith as the singer of the sweet father/daughter wedding dance song, “Daddy Dance With Me,” which she wrote for her own wedding as a surprise for dad Toby Keith. Or maybe you know her from her official debut single, “Get Your Redneck On.” [Get it here!] But did you know she’s also super talented in the kitchen? Krystal’s been creating delicious meals from family recipes for years and featuring them in her blog, The Barnyard Bistro. But now she’s sharing some of them exclusively with Great American Country! Check back with us every Tuesday for a new recipe from Krystal.

“Today is probably one of the most incredible days of my life, thus far,” says Krystal. “I finally get to say that my album Whiskey & Lace is out and available in stores! On the run as usual, a quick and easy breakfast is a must for me. This is one of my favorite breakfasts.

“I always make a batch of this and keep it in the fridge to serve as my breakfast all week,” she says. “Especially with my busy schedule, it is a great way to have a healthy home-cooked breakfast that I can just heat and go. I consider my 2 favorite desserts to be 1) Anything Apple and 2) Crème brûlée. This feels like dessert for breakfast but holds me over and gets me through those early morning interviews and appearances.”

Krystal Keith's Recipe for Slow Cooker Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Ingredients:
4 granny smith apples
4 cups oats
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 quarts of water (8 cups)
2 cups milk

Directions:
Peel, core and dice apples into 1/2 inch cubes. Combine apples with all other ingredients in your slow cooker’s pot. Mix with a large spoon or spatula. Place lid on top and turn your slow cooker’s setting to Medium. Let cook until it reaches desired consistency, usually around 3 hours. Make sure to stir it every half hour paying close attention to turning the ingredients from the bottom to top each time. Serves 8-10.
